Re: General Impression
I think everything being uniform throughout the entire map is pretty restrictive on the game play element. For example, some region could have more rich mineral per patch of resource than other places and such. It isn't really uniform. As both myself and psihius have commented, once you get into th...

Re: General Impression
I would comment perhaps you should complete a game to appreciate the extent of the scaling up of production, and therefore resource consumption and throughput, required. I found both the availability of resources and the building of the delivery systems to get them from deposit to smelter to assembl...

Yay, I finished the game......
... in 65.5 hours, lol, so I suppose that's a pretty poor effort really but my excuse is I had never got as far as using trains to get mass resources, using logistics and construction robots or figuring out how to scale everything up to make all the blue processing units and red circuits etc for the...

processing units for L3 modules
I've been doing some math, having never got this far in the game before, around making the level 3 modules. I set up one each speed, productivity, and efficiency L3 module factory, each with two level 2 factories to of same type to supply them (and 2 Level 1's to support them etc). I've been looking...

Re: Some questions about circuit network (red/greeen wires)
Thanks for the clarifications, especially the idea that a smart chest is not used in the logistics network, that one had eluded me until now.

Some questions about circuit network (red/greeen wires)
1. Am i right in thinking that red and green wires have identical functions and the purpose of having the two colours is so that one device (inserter or chest) can participate in two distinct networks if required. Red and green wires could be thought of as two channels, in other words. 2. Am i right...

Re: Newbie Tips?
1. Play the game, get comfortable with the basic mechanics, and don't worry about losing. Play with biters off for a while if it suits you, it'll let you focus on building your own design preferences. The game goes a lot smoother when you're not spending a lot of time having to think about the smal...

Re: Newbie Tips?
I would say as an occasional and definitely novice, though not beginner, player: 1. Play your first games focusing on one thing at a time. For example in one game figure out how your steam based power gen up and running, how many boilers you need for how many steam engines and such and how to lay th...

Re: List of let's play videos
This guy makes some of the best tutorial videos for complex games I've ever seen. Unfortunately he's very part time.

Some of the Factorio LPs already out there are pretty good, but I think there is also room for a "Factorio Design Patterns" series.

Ah, OK. I did not check the experimental update box. Does "experimental" basically mean "latest release" and are they usually backward compatible with your current game save files?

Fired up Factorio again - a most excellent game IMO
I played quite a bit a few months ago. Watched Arumba playing it a bit the other day and thought yeah, I must have another go now see what they've done to it. I had forgotten just how intricate and flexible it was. It really is a genuinely innovative and most excellent game, fabulous stuff. I'm not ...

Re: Are they supposed to do this?!?!
If they are fleshing away regularly it may be because your overall power generation is about equal to your power demand - basically they are charging up a bit when demand is slightly lower than supply, then releasing their stored charge when demand slightly exceeds supply. This would mean they fire ...

Re: Oil refinary output logjams (pre-SP3)
My solution was to fast-track Advanced Oil Processing. A single storage tank of crude oil will make a lot of a batteries and plastic bars, more than enough to do the necessary research. You just have to plan ahead and make sure your science assemblers are ready to accept plastic bars and batteries ...

Oil refinary output logjams (pre-SP3)
I seem to be getting problems with plastics and battery production halted because heavy and light oil conversion to solid fuel keeps getting clogged up - I have nothing else to do with oil at the moment and don't use the solid fuel either. Is it correct that if the refinery cannot output the heavy a...

Re: Q & E
You are absolutely right - just changed those options and they appear to work fine. I would comment that the very new players most likely to find the current Q and E bindings most difficult to adjust to (and be put off by them) are also those most unlikely to experiment with key bindings to make the...

Q and E Keys (mapping)
Fixed title. --- ssilk ---- I'm sure one gets used to this, but before I do i wanted to raise the issue of the Q and E key functionality because, until and if you get used to it, it confuses and frustrates idiot newbies like me who have enough to think about already as it is. Basically you get confu...

Re: Petroleum gas production
I've rebuilt everything around 2 oil refineries and these seem enough to get one plastics and one battery factory at least reasonably functional I have to say you seem to get a measly amount of petroleum gas out of a refinery. It seems wrong to me that one refinery can only supply one factory with it.

Petroleum gas production
I'm having a nightmare trying to get plastic and batteries manufactured (for blue beakers) because I don't seem to be getting more than a dribble of petroleum gas out of my oil refinery. I set up three pump jacks with a tank, then refinery connected to one sulphur (leading to battery) and another tw...
