Another use for such an inserter would be to load a buffer (f.e. a chest) from a belt als long as there is ample supply of an item and replacing the items when supply of the items is low.

A superb addon! It is a pity though that the belt storage can't supply signals like a smart chest. It would make it much easier to get some sort of control of the input flux on the belt.

I don't understand why science pack 3 would be needed for the upgrades. Why Science Pack 3 ? Did u mean for researching it ? Thank you for this nice addition, Kellen. It taught me how to create a mod (and/or modify it). I.m.o. the vanilla wagons are much too small. I would love to use flashing lights as indicators when a condition (like the conditions with the inserters or smarts chests) is met.
Lights should be flashing at night and daytime. It would be even more awesome when the colour could be set by the player.

I made the directory name and the names in the json file of the mod itself and in the mods directory exactly the same.

I´ve posted this post first in Solved bugs which wasn´t my intention. This ?error? hasn´t been solved yet. This morning i upgraded version 0.10.6 to 0.10.8. A nice addition to Factorio.
It does seem odd (to me) that the smart long handed inserter needs a long handed inserter and two advanced circuits? Wouldn't a smart inserter, a metal plate and a gear be a more logical choice of components?

I also think this would be a good addition to Factorio. My main use wouldn't be so much sharing with other players as using a (blue print) design in more than one game. A good design is a good design and it shouldn't bave to be replicated everytime one starts a new game.
