Re: Beacons need to be altered.

Productivity modules' effectiveness increases exponentially with the length of assembling machine chain involved. This is an optical illusion. It isn't what's really going on. If each machine in our chain gets 150% productivity (say, 2 lvl 2 and 2 lvl 3 modules), cost per item is 1/1.5 = 2/3. If al...

We are working on the release right now.
What's the productivity module status in 0.7.3? Any chance you'll improve it for 0.7.4?

Re: [0.7.1] Burner mining drill is a coal hog

I tried experimenting with delaying setting up electricity and building a working mining line based on burner drills and inserters, so this is a problem. Now that I have experimented... I don't recommend it. Burner miners are just too weak (is it just me or did they become weaker in 0.7.x? It seems...

Re: My observations from playing the game (Trains/wishlist)

Trains are good: Using basic belts would limit the flow of items to small rates, so lets compare fast transport belts and rails. Rail costs approximatelly 6 iron per 2 tiles. Fast transport belt costs 26 iron per 2 tiles. What about having 2 lines of basic belts in parallel? It costs 6 iron per 2 t...

Re: Video about Factorio

The continuous factorial in the end is also an interesting concept, I do fail to see how it relates to the factorial. Since, in my head, the factorial has always been based as "the amount of discrete configurations n objects can have"; as also seen in his given example with the coins. So ...

Re: Beacons need to be altered.

So for 0.7.3, I did the last way. No productivity modules in beacons. Please reconsider. I have the following suggestions to make modules more balanced: 1. Make beacon stacking sublinear. That means, if a machine is affected by 1 beacon it gets the normal bonus, but as more beacons affect it it get...

Re: [0.7.2] Getting negative value on logistic chest

This is something with the robots. As you upgrade the robots, they begin to trnsport more goods at the same time. At max upgrade, they transport 4 items, but if there is only 1, the systems show you a negative number because it thinks it is picking up 4 items. A simple "fix" is to up prod...

Re: Researching Minigame

I never just stand and wait for research when I play, as currently when I play, I try to beat the game in smallest amount of time possible, or playing with less resources, being forced to make railway very early etc. I agree. If you ever find yourself sitting idle waiting for research or crafting, ...

No need to loop around the labs Not sure if this was Math3vv's intention or not, but until you do have a solid science production the loop allows the science packs to continue moving on the belt instead of 10-20 being stuck at the end where only 1-4 of the labs have access (ranges are dependent upo...

Re: Automated Research Fort

Why do you use such a complex design for feeding the labs? It reminds me of the naive circular designs I used for assembly lines before I understood how to align lanes properly. The traditional method is something along these lines (this assumes a logistic system, with pure belts you need filters fo...

I've loved and enjoyed Factorio since 0.3. Not saying that it can't be improved but if it bores you and you quit playing after a week, maybe it's not the game for you. No need to turn it into something that it's not. Also, I've never encountered your situation. I'm always researching much faster tha...

Re: Round vs. quadratic

Everything else uses squares and taxicab metric (total distance is sum of x and y distances). It's not Taxicab metric . It's the Chebyshev metric (Total distance is maximum of x and y distances). OT: I believe mathematicians call these Manhatten and Maximum metrics/norms (or alternatively L_1 and L...

Re: New inserter

In 0.7.x, the long inserter takes from 2 spaces away and puts 2 spaces away. The old method was good too but this is pretty convenient, as you're usually inserting out of or into a building which is at least 2x2, so it's not a problem and allows more flexibility. (And this post upgraded my forum ran...
