Re: Friday Facts #409 - Diminishing beacons

So far, the changes you've been making have been fundamentally additive to the base game. This one makes breaking changes to existing game mechanics. You're smart people, so I'm sure you realized this, but I'd be really curious to hear a bit more about why you still felt it was worth boiling this oc...

Re: Friday Facts #393 - Putting things on top of other things

Late to the party but getting caught up (and excited for 2.0). Totally agree that the new belt tier animation is just really janky, due to all the reasons why you avoided introducing it so many times before. Maybe the better solution is just not to make it so fast: Make it move 28/256 positions per ...

Re: What are the most impractical items in Factorio?

Night vision goggles.

Completely pointless ever since the update where they made night barely any darker than day, so the game would look good on youtube. :x

They should have just removed them from the game as part of that update.

Re: UPS Optimization - Red Science (editor)

I realized my fun is with designing factories that use the least ingame resources to produce their goods. Least amount of machines produce maximum amount of output with the least possible space. That's what I'm optimizing, and that's what I find big fun. Yeah, this is where I'm at too. For me the f...

Re: UPS Optimization - Red Science (editor)

Appreciate the replies! For a competition to be interesting it needs to provide something different enough for these designs to not be the winners before the contest starts. I totally agree. I guess that was kind of my point though. I've been pouring over the prevailing UPS wisdom for a while now, a...

Re: UPS Optimization - Red Science (editor)

The one thing that bothered me a bit about these tests was allowing for arbitrary ore patch placement via the editor. I get that it was done to allow for end-to-end DI builds. It's a good way to learn more about optimizing production performance, but obviously there are a lot of other unavoidable re...

OLED-friendly GUI change

Just picked up the full game on Steam, enjoying it a lot so far. One thing I noticed (I started out playing the campaign) is that there are several static windows in the UI -- the objectives window, quickbar, etc. I play on an OLED screen and I'm a little worried about these UI elements causing burn...
