Re: [0.4.1] Sound Delay in Ubuntu Linux

I'd say this is solved (as of 0.10.6).

Maybe there is still a very slight delay, but I tried hard and find it difficult to tell if there is some noticable delay or not. It probably depends on the quality of drivers, so… Does everyone agree that this is fixed?

Re: Very slow on linux 64

In case of AMD, open source drivers are fine, at least for the 6870 and I guess most other AMD cards. And in case of Intel, there are no proprietary drivers, as Intel develops their own Linux drivers as free/open source software. So it's correct for Nvidia. And might be correct for AMD in some cases...

Re: The Hydra Dilemma - A Coop Factorio Playthrough!

And tip for Xterminator: Disabling factories with inserter rotation is the worst thing you can do. Nobody will notice that until you completely run out of that product. And in this case it still take some time to discover where the problem is. I think removing electrical pole is better idea, it is ...

Re: The Hydra Dilemma - A Coop Factorio Playthrough!

Also, I think barrels are the only way to transport oil by train or in the player's inventory (and using logistics bots, like JoshLittle mentioned). So it's not only nicer for storage, it's also more flexible because it's just a standard item like iron or electronic circuits. I think I've deleted (m...

Little to no solar power? Have you checked this post by nosfereefer? That's a lot of solar power! However, sometimes "a lot" is not even close to "enough".

Re: [0.10.1] locale de

There's another issue with the German translation. Either we need separate production= and consumption= keys for the [gui-production] section, so we can have something like: (other translators may chime in with better wording) [gui-production] title=Produktion consumption=Materialverbrauch productio...

Re: Inserter Power Efficiency

Cool :-) What's idle power usage for fast / normal inserter respectively? It seems like normal inserters idle at 4.6kW, with rather short spikes to 13kW when working. When busy 100% of the time like in your experiment, the fast inserter uses less power per inserted item. But how about when it's only...

Re: Linux Support!

Yeah, thanks for the excellent linux support! :-) I'm a little worried about the libX11 etc. dependencies. They are no problem now, but in a few years this might be considered deprecated and we need some ugly XWayland compat layer to play factorio and can't get rid of good old X. As I understand it,...

Oh, thanks Turtle. I didn't know about that thread and have never used that subforum before. I used the forum search just for this subforum and assumed that this is the only thread. I agree, the aliens do not appear to be very intelligent, since they could easily kill most bases if they simply attac...

Re: [cube]Night vision under linux behavis

I've never used night vision so I don't know if this is a general linux problem. I just wanted to recommend to herumon that he could try using the open source AMD driver if the issue persists with latest catalyst. I'm not sure how Mint handles this, in Ubuntu I can select which driver to use in a sp...

Re: [0.10.6] Replay desync at high speed

That's interesting. I always get desyncs when I build the research lab, but so far I have only tried it at full speed (x64 IIRC).

Can you replay the placement of a research lab at slow speed? Maybe I should give this a try. :)

Re: Oil, power, combat and alien tech

@Oil: Maybe you just had bad luck with map generation, I usually find enough oil relatively close to my base to get started, and later on it's not that difficult to have some pumpjacks in remote areas. Also, it's important to note that oil never runs out AFAICT. It drops to 0.1/s, but you can still ...

Re: Allowed to use code from other mods???

There is nothing against putting the code on the left side of screen and rewrite the code to the right side, if it is not just copy/paste, but a bit improving. Some code of the Linux kernel is written like so. I doubt it. Unless the original code is GPL compatible. By manually copying proprietary c...

Re: Alien diplomacy

I want to bring this up again. I'd love to have some way to avoid biter base raids. Right now we are forced to raid bases for artifacts, because we can't progress without them. I'd prefer some way to trade with aliens, so humans and biters can live on the planet in peace. Sure, make it expensive and...

Re: [Spawn] Started on an island, can't go anywhere.

Yep, that's the best you can do until devs add boats/swimming or find a way to fix the map generator. Though from my current understanding of the map generator, it's difficult (impossible?) to tell wheter or not the starting area is on an island because the island could be VERY BIG, so "scannin...

Re: [Linux w Intel GPU][cube] Most of the graphics missing

I also wonder where exactly the issue with some Intel drivers is. It's great that the workaround appears to work (no confirmation yet)? I guess the problem is either a missing error return code when a big texture allocation fails. Or it should theoretically work and the texture allocation does not a...
