Re: Development and Discussion
How long till the 0.14 versions of your mods? Probably later today. Hi, is it possible to use petrochem mode without bob mods? If im trying to do that i have an error on game launch "Error in assignID, item with name "bauxite-ore" does not exist". Is there any way to avoid it? N...

Re: Nuclear Power from a Nuclear Engineer
I just cant understand all this radiation suit stuff. That's why I like the idea that the energy shield can protect from radiation. Shields are not bound by the laws of physics, they work by magic. If a shield can protect from bites, acid, fire and lasers it should be able to protect from radiation...

Re: Are there other functional smart furnace setups?
If you like "simple solutions" just dont make steel in smart furnaces, make steel on-site. its much easier, but i guess its not about easier but just to overengineer something and have fun ;) Well that's what it boils down to anyways in my map because I'm already stuck with the wrong Inse...

Re: Nuclear Power from a Nuclear Engineer
Lots of stuff to read through! I wanted to talk about adding some inflexibility to nuclear power. Everything else provides X energy exactly as needed. What if nuclear had a fixed output? Failing to use the energy could cause problems, and sudden needs can cause shortages. One possibility is that a ...

Re: Are there other functional smart furnace setups?
I was thinking about quite ugly solution (and the switch is slow) - using multiple requester chests (iron ore, iron plate, copper ore) that move materials to another chest from which they are inserted into the furnace. Allow inserter that work for iron plates to move only %5=0 items (need to calcula...

Re: Friday facts #151 - The plans for 0.14
why dont you just make a blueprint with turrets plus roboport then.
Just use deconstruction planner on everything that is not bluprint and expand. Dont pick up what you build. Go forward and copy paste it to victory.
If you have alot of resources of course, which you should because you expand alot.

Re: Friday facts #151 - The plans for 0.14
ahh you are playing for the satellite launch. Then yes there is 0 reason to use modules at all. I mean "using map with such settings and launching a satellite once in a 15 minutes or so for a long time", its just boring to expand for me maybe i prefer to make the most with resources i have...

Just start a map with all values for resources for very low\very small (for challenge\fun).
You will SOON find yourself loving efficiency modules.

Re: 0.13.4 Add logistic train arms
I had exactly the same problem and no solution to pack more than 12 diff goods into a wagon. At least when you transport oil it is impossible to mix in one wagon because you cannot limit stacks to crude oil ( you need to allow empty barrels as well ) so any other available stuff will fill up the wa...

Re: Making nuclear reactors interesting (and thus fun)
It would also have been reasonable to assume that the high-tech nation Japan has its reactors under control - so I'm totally in camp meltdown. I do however quite like the idea that nuclear reactors don't respond quickly to consumption changes. Now google some chemical plant disasters and coal\gas p...

Re: Nuclear Power from a Nuclear Engineer
I am amazed that in a thread about nuclear power with an actual nuclear engineer present nobody has mentioned the LFTR/Liquid Fluoride (Salt) Thorium Reactor (this video is worth watching, just 5 minutes where everything is explained about why Thorium is better) and the mod by Homusubi You have to ...

Re: Nuclear Power from a Nuclear Engineer
For all those who want waste as a junk - remember - no factorio assembly machine leaves waste. Have you ever been to gear factory for example? It leaves alot of waste actually (which is refactored then). Or any other REAL factory. It has waste (which is sometimes refactored, sometimes not). There is...

Re: Nuclear Power from a Nuclear Engineer
-IRL you need 20 years to build a rocket. Holy bejebbus since WHEN? The vast majority of effort goes into R&D because we have no actual backups in orbit and everything has to be 125% reliable. Beyond that we can crap out a grade B rocket in a few years easy. Reactor system should punish player ...

Re: Nuclear Power from a Nuclear Engineer
My suggestion will actually be a simple "boiler type" plant that can be build very fast - without blue science, about the same time player can build solar system with accumulators.. It will need highly enriched fuel, have better output than steam boilers. That will familiarize player with ...

Re: Nuclear Power from a Nuclear Engineer
So here is my question what reward do you provide (apart from "achievment" "my nuclear plant works") in your system of "stressing" power plants if they are not reliable power sources and you NEED solar panels as an additional source (and it needs to give even more powe...
