Can someone explain why this is a terrible idea? And when designing a sub-factory that uses direct insertion, should i leave ANY room to manually grab the items (like one line of belt), just so i can see them being produced? Or is it a waste? Reverse Splitters

Splitters with one belt going one way and the other belt going the other. This makes splitting a belt to backtrack an item to earlier in the line way easier and saves more space than the ugly wrap around.

I have access to the basic gun turrets but haven't built any because i didn't know how effective they were, i dont know their range or how quickly they can take down a biter,I will test some. Walls seem very expensive for how little ground they cover. Are they actually effective at keeping out biters?

Discussed often, search for recycling, waste... From gameplay there is currently no need for that and that is also the devs standpoint: there will be no recycler, cause it will be used only for very low amount of items. @MangledPork that's a great story. I'm glad people are adding their own take on what they believe fsctorios lore is all about.

@root I agree, I think him starting out as a coward and eventually conquering his fear as he conquers the planet is really fitting with the game.
