It's be most intuitive to make clicking the logo go to factorio.com, make clicking FACTORIO FORUMS go to the forum front page, and remove the small link below.
But after clicking them 1 or 2 times you just get used to it working this way...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
Make it easy to update belts from yellow to red, and from red to blue. This could be done by not upgrading the belts themselves but by upgrading the belt motor units. An entity that doesn't exist currently but would make total sense. In order to make belts move you place a motor beside them and pow...

Re: Splitter not working properly
There has been a serious change in belt (and probably splitter) mechanics. The previous trick was a random consequence of the belt/splitter mechanics that was not explicitely intended, thus it is not guaranteed it will still work with 0.16 and onward. I'd be really happy if that nonsense stopped wo...

Re: [Request] Alternate Game Textures
Compared to minecraft, which just has a few 100 block types, this would take a ridiculous amount of effort. Factorio has thousands of high quality sprites, a good chunk of them is also animated.

Maybe this will finally make people stop replacing the whole world with concrete, which honestly has always looked horrible, and start building roads instead.

That honestly is laughable in 2017. My upload speed is 40Mbit/s and my game should not be limited because some people still have 3rd world internet.Zavian wrote:Atm according to speedtest.net my upload speed is about 340 kbps.

Re: Ping sortable server browser
This information can not be obtained by the matchmaking server, what you are looking for is YOUR latency to the game servers, and you certainly would not want every client to ping every server on the server list upon downloading it or no one would want to put their server on that list anymore. A pi...

Re: Friday Facts #221 - 0.16 is out
Compressing with underground belts wouldn't be necessary at all it inserters compressed properly in the first place, I always thought it looked really ugly when someone used it.

Re: Friday Facts #221 - 0.16 is out
Just a thought, there wouldn't be any of these compression problems if items snapped to slots on the belt that are exactly 1 item apart. No weird half gaps - no problems.

So just because you wasted time making something that should not be necessary, everyone else must do that aswell?<NO_NAME> wrote:I don't have opinion about side-loading but inserters should not compress belts. Don't tell me that I designed my complicated, splitter-filled furnace layout for nothing!

Re: Friday Facts #221 - 0.16 is out
Side loading and inserters should definitely compress belts! Otherwise you would have to put big, unnecessary splitter setups after everything that is supposed to handle a compressed belt of stuff. That wouldn't be an interesting mechanic, just annoying repetition once you figured it out.

Re: Friday Facts #219 - Cliffs
Not without sacrificing performance by a large amount. Do you not pre-render the shadows? Does it not just entail re-rendering everything with a consistent light source direction? Why would it affect performance...? Because sprites are rotated runtime to save on video memory which also rotates the ...

For the best performance with large bases, you want a 7700k at 5GHz and high frequency/low latency memory.

Most multiplayer games are probably people playing coop, with friends, in private. How does pvp even make sense in a game where you spend hours and hours on building stuff?

It's baffling that the US spelling would be supported by developers who aren't even from the US in the first place. When I was learning HTML back in the mid-1990s, I got tripped up by the use of US spellings of "colour" all the bloody time! Contrast this to POVRay scene description langua...
