Moving trains slow down the game during a record

Hello,
today I wanted to record a little thingy someone has found (not a bug ^^).
All went good until the trains (six or seven) began to move.
Directly at the beginning of the train-movement, the framerate crashed down to 1-3 fps.
The framerate got normal as I stopped the record and I think, the framerate would get normal, when all trains come to stop again.

I'm recording with Fraps :)
Specs., that I know (not many):
CPU: Intel Core i7-3630QM @ 2,4GHz (while playing Factorio it uses turbo with 3,4GHz)
RAM: 8GB
OS: Windows Technical Preview (Windows 10)

I also get slowdowns when using fraps, but for me trains don't affect it, for me it seems to be random.

Hmm ...

I have to build more trains and check it with obs :). One train doesnt do anything :)

I've checked it again today and come to the same statement.

Here are some values I'd token during the check:

Idle (neither Factorio or Fraps running):
CPU usage: 2%
CPU speed: 1,15 GHz
Memory usage: 2,0 of 7,8 GB (26%) (Frequency: 1600 MHz)
Disk usage: 0%

Only Factorio is running:
CPU usage: 27%
CPU speed: 3,17 GHz (Intel Turbo-Boost; processor's own overclocking; absolute maximum)
Memory Usage: 4,8 of 7,8 GB (62%)
Disk Usage: 0%

During record:
CPU usage: 21%
CPU speed: 2,35 GHz (maximum on normal mode; thats the point, I think the lags are coming from)
Memory usage: 4,8 of 7,8 GB (62%)
Disk usage: 100% (that's Fraps fault, it does a record ^^)

After record:
Same values as before recording
That could be an explaination
I hope, this is helping a little bit ^^

Is that explanation pure speculation? It doesn't really make sense.

If you use compression during recording, it might have to do with Fraps needing to save more data while a lot is moving around on the screen due to how compression works. This is quite unlikely though.
One thing you should test is whether the frame rate slows down when trains start moving off-screen.

First check your game settings to see how many treads is Factorio alowed to use.
When you are playing your game without recording you could set the number of allowed threads to be the same as number of virtual cores available (on your computer that will be 8).
But when you are recording the gameplay video it is recomended to lower the number of alowed threads so that you free up the load from some of your CPU cores so they can be used by Fraps.

Also based on expirience from some of the forum members it is better to use OBS (https://obsproject.com/) for recording video in Factorio than Fraps as in general it causes less slowdowns.

There is only one big problem: clicking on any record-like button crashes the software, what it makes useless.

ehmmm ... what do you mean? I have no problems to capture my videos with OBS.

I'm using a Laptop, that causes problems with OBS.
Now I have to wait for my new computer, what can take a very long time :/

Do you click at OBS itself or using hotkeys? In factorio I do not have a problem to click on OBS (but I play factorio in an window) but for the other game I record I have to use the hotkeys for starting a record.
Maybe you should test it using hotkeys :)

I found out, my graphic cards are crashing it.
Moved OBS to the integrated graphics -> now everything works fine :)
