Newish LPer stepping out

I've been doing some LP videos of factorio for awhile now and have one season done and about 1/2 way through with season 2. Please check out some of the videos in my playlist and let me know what you think. I'm no where near the caliber as say Arumba or Fish but I definately enjoy playing the game and I hope it shows in the videos. I am looking for some interesting ideas and I am still beating myself up that I missed Fish's invitation for the Co-Op (and thoroughly enjoying it btw). So if you have free time and would like some extra content check me out please and if you are looking for any joint ventures I am down for whatever!

The link to my channel is https://www.youtube.com/user/pharaway05 ... _as=public

Thanks gang!!

I've been enjoying your videos. :) I was disappointed that you didn't take my advice regarding your sound quality(commentary). I haven't seen your most recent vid yet, but maybe your new mic will fix that.

Still watching, still enjoying :)

PS. When I read your topic title I actually thought you were quitting, lol..

The new mic is definitely awesome! The latest episode is a bit too loud I think. I have to find a good position for the mic. I recorded that episode with minimal gain and the mic about a foot from my face. I got alot of fan noise from my PC so I moved the case as well. I will be recording a new episode tomorrow and I've made more adjustments. Your advice is well appreciated and I hope you do like the new quality. Me quit? Heck no! I need to step it up! :)

I have an idea that I'm meshing out for a Co-op. I've not done one yet so I'm unsure of the mechanics on how to trade the save, etc. I might have to tap the "experts" knowledge.

Thanks for the comments peeps!

I'd watchout root. Fish can be viscous! LOL

I'm going to ignore the obvious mistake here and assume it is deliberate

Ha! Improper English is my specialty... LOL

BTW - Got a new episode up. Please excuse the microphone pop at the beginning. Still learning the quirkiness of this mic.

Usually I just do the recording with OBS and use the internal noise gate and it is sufficient. I want to start recording the audio without any gate, rip the audio from the video, edit audio in audacity, re-insert back into video. What program would you guys recommend to do the audio/video merger? Remember I'm cheap! LOL.

I use Sony Vegas, but even WMM can do that job.

That tends to be the price you pay for free products.

True. I did play around with light works and got decent quality. I have a new episode going up at 22 GMT tomorrow. Let me know how the video and audio quality is. It seems youtube dubs down the quality a bit. Thanks fish for the pointers!

The encoding on youtube is very poor. be thankful factorio is a pretty low framerate game. 30fps is fine for it. If you have something HD will lots of movement, youtube is really bad. eg, sports are pretty crappy because of it.

One thing I can't seem to avoid is the character (being greenish) seems to blur a bit when you move. The only thing I haven't tried is loseless recording but OMG the filesizes would be monstrous.

Don't stress about it. You're never going to avoid it.

I did an update with newer audio editing. I'm actually recording my voice in audacity and using OBS just for the video and game audio. i upped the quality of the video on OBS so it is forcing me to do shorter episodes. With the previous video/audio combo a 30 minute episode was approx 160MB. Using the new method a 15 minute episode is 600MB. I'm going to try it for a few and see how it works. Also, statistics on youtube are showing that average view times on the 30 minute episodes were around 10 minutes. I figure if I cut it back it may give people with limited viewing time the ability to finish the episode.

Here is the link to the new upload. Let me know what you all think! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hE0pv-8g4aA
