[MOD 0.12.X] Original Music, in "HD"

This mod adds the tracks from earlier versions of Factorio, as recreated by ruhroh, to the list of ambient music that it plays. These are encoded at much higher quality, and therefore do not suffer the problems of the originals.

See ruhroh's forum threads for more information about the music itself: Sepro1 now in HD! and
Original Factorio Intro (song) Now in "HD"!.

You can listen to the music at soundcloud.

Download the mod from my site or Factorio Mods.

This mod is compatible with Factorio 0.12.11.

Great mod. I wish they kept them in the original game then who knows we might of never gotten remaster versions of them :)

Indeed! The new music is possibly better/more fitting, but after a few hundred hours I got kinda used to the old ones :)

How hard would it be to make user music into the ambient music? I always have music playing in the background while I play, not being forced to have another program open in the background would be great.

It's not too hard, but you have to add a prototype definition for each track. As an example, you can look at the ones I created for this mod in my source repository.

Also, as far as I know Factorio only supports music encoded with Ogg Vorbis.

Hey db48x

I downloaded your mod 2 days ago and i like it.
But i have an idea to make another music mod based on your mod.
Can i submit this mod when it's done? What should i write if so?
I'm basing on main script of your mod...
and... is it gonna collide in game with Your mod?
I want to make StarCraft Music mod.

Thanks for reading and sorry for my not perfect english :)

EDIT: Mod is done, works perfect, sound perfect

The code is based on the same code, which comes with the Factorio Base Mod.

Look into the Factorio installation dir and serarch for data/base/prototypes/ambient-sounds.lua.

Also: That is just a prototype definition. Nothing where someone could say "I have a copyright on that", cause it is is just the definition of a playlist for Factorio. :)

Ok then. I'll edit Info file tomorow and upload it

It fit to original factorio music so well, but it's louder. :)

Has anyone else been having issues with sound volumes being too low and music being too sparse in recent versions?

Is it possible to have the original music *replace* the new one?

I, for one, think that the new music is bad and its composer should feel bad. I'd much rather remove it completely and play only the original (or its remake).

But when I try the obvious approach of moving the built-in music files out of the way, Factorio keeps looking for them anyway and crashes.
