I quite often find myself building 3 gun turrets in a bunker. Then to fill them with magazines I give half of my inventory to the first, half of the remainder to the second and the rest to the third. Then I take back half from the first, Thus each gets 1/4 of my ammo and I keep 1/4 for myself.

Very fast like this:

- 1: Ctrl-right,
- 2: Ctrl-right,
- 3: Ctrl-left and
- 1: Ctrl-right.

Faster loading without full automation: Put belts and inserters to these turrets, and a chest and inserter next to it. Fill the chest with 3/4 of your ammo (or whatever ratio) and let the machines do the rest!

Fastest option: Get laser turrets!

Sure belts, chests and inserters are faster for later refill. This is for very early defenses.

Lasers are a very nice for later game when biters are armored, but really not needed in the early game when regular bullets mow down small biters easily.
Constructions robots and perhaps logistics seems a better use of batteries at first.

There is also Autofill mod, but I havent look after it for a while.
