[0.10.6] Crash when train is placed in a curve

Bugs that we were not able to reproduce, and/or are waiting for more detailed info.

[0.10.6] Crash when train is placed in a curve

By putting a train or a wagon on the rails the game crashed when the first move into the a curve is done (or if the mouse is directly over a curve by selecting a train from the inventory). Driving is no problem, but this "ghost mode" before the train is actually placed. No problem with straight or diagonal rails

(I play the ubuntu version)

Are those rails connected to anyting?
Did you try on a new map, not building anything unrelated?

I have no other map ready for trains yet.

But it happens also on unrelated rails. The system is not hanging up, cpu indicators etc. don't show a tiny spike at all, they just work on the same level as before. Just the game doesn't react anymore.

I tried to reproduce it, but without success.

Could you reproduce it on new save?
Can you reproduce it repeatedly or was it just one random crash?

You can cheat the items by using the console (~ key):

No. Not a single mod.

But I also have some other display issues (also previous with 0.9.8). Don't know if it has to do with it...:
At the first start I see always some wrong colors in the menu and after loading a big pink and white noise. Sound is ok but the display is completely useless. While loading sometimes the numbers in the percentage are also a bit strange (specially 9 and sometimes 1). On the second start the game is playable, but mostly some things are missing. Mostly the electric smelters or the big poles are not visible but functional. After the third start everything is fine, functional and visible.

In these times when the game is not displaying everything right, it is also nice to see trains driving around a curve and in some of the pictures of the movement in some kind of angles the train is invisible. So the movement is displayed as a row of single pictures and some of them are not loaded good enough.

Perhaps this is some kind of reason. In these screenshots I posted the game loaded well. But perhaps this ghost mode before placing the train has some issues in certain pictures.

Well, yes now I know it is graphical problem, not a logic problem most probably. How much graphical memory (vram) do you have? Did you try it in low-graphics mode?

Seems only to be a GeForce 9500 GS with 512 MB
But I had other games running like portal 2 without any graphical problem

I would try to encourage you to really try the low-graphics mode, at least for the testing of this situation.

Nope. With low grafics it is still hanging up in the same way.

Additionaly: Also after having changed the mode and restart, the terminal still gets the same load of these warning:

Could you tell me (from the log or console) how how big atlases the game creates?

Could you try to limit the size of the atlas in config? (https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... f=7&t=3636)
