We have save backwards compatibility since version 0.1.0. So the answer is Yes.
Note that the saves folder has changed from: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Factorio\saves\ to [Your location]\Factorio\saves

Only if you use the zip package, an in that case it did change to [Factorio - folder]/saves.
And you can still change it by editing the config.
