Hello, the new stable candidate update is here:
  • Bugfixes:
    • Fixed loadability of save with inserter in logistic network, that has cleared the logistic condition due to mod removal.
    • Fixed of loading save with gui element with custom mod style, when the mod was removed. Note, that we plan to remove gui created by mod that was removed completely in the future versions.
    • Fixed crash with inserter putting stuff to rail-tile when first the rail and then the inserter is removed.
  • Graphics:
    • New transport belt graphics.

In my personal opinion the belts have too much of a blueish hue.

Just a note: Direct downloads now appear to be working. (Needed to switch from 64bit to 32bit so when my mod memleaks it didn't eat up all my RAM in 2 seconds.)

For some reason our download limit protection kicked in yesterday. It could have been an error or an attack. I will have a look at it.

The style of the new graphics is very nice, but as I mentionend before they just lack the sharpness of the old graphics. Instead of crisp, the look blurred somehow?

Just look eg at some iron plates placed on that belt, the plates look 10x sharper and for me easier to look at. The new sience packs on a belt seem as blurry. Am I the only one with this impression? :D

Edit: ok here's a screenshot. As it seems the plates are just higher resolution than all the other (new graphics). The picture is not resized. I hope that all the graphics will be in some higher resolution later, the inserter and all the details in the new graphics are somewhat lost in this low resolution model bitmaps.

This was always like so, some things are more sharp than others, because they have a higher resolution. I think it is possible to have them all in the same resolution in the end...

You will never get "really sharp" objects, because of the free zoom level of factorio, but yes, the belts look blurrier than the other objects. ^^

I think the game shouldn't let you zoom to the point that sprites blur out without use of console.

That would mean further restriction of the player, and that's bad. If he wants to zoom close, he should be able to do that, without console.

What sort of restriction? That you aren't allowed to admire individual pixels?

Nor really sure if anyone is into that.

If someone wants to do that, it should be possible for him. There's just no need to restrict the zoom level in my opinion.

The zoom level in the sceenshot above might look very close, but it was cut out from a 1920x1200 screen and even at this zoom level I can see quite a bit of the factory around. Yes I play very short at this zoom level, but I still was a bit dissapointed of the lack of detail. I am sure the creation of the 3D- models took a lot of time, and they really seem to have a lot of details worked in which seem to get lost.

As I said, I hope in later game it is planned to implement some sort of "high detail graphics" switch for those people with enough graphical power :)

One of the things i like in games is watch the small things :) One of my first games was "The Settlers" (one), I enjoyed watching those little guy working :D
Small things that you only see after hours of playing, because they are not really important... Eg insects flying around, critters playing at the water. Something that breathes life into a sterile world... :D

I think the problem, why you see it blurred, is the limited video memory. Many images in high resolution will take a lot mem.

What are your settings for AntiAliasing and MultiSampling?
When I take a closer look at the screenshot you provided I can see blured edge around every texture sprite in game. These can sometimes ocur when using low AntiAliassing levels or low Multisampling levels in combination with large screen resolutions.
