Just wondering if there is a slighly more specific release date :)
I've been checking the forums every day for a few weeks waiting for the next update.

O.O
I think: 'end of April' means 'the last day of April'. Everyone like to use as much time as possible

The release date for Factorio 0.4.0 has been set. It will be 2nd of May 2013. That is the next thursday. I updated the OP.

We originally wanted to make the release tomorrow. However it is not yet ready. Last day of the month was another option because that was what we have said in the OP. However I personally think that Thursday is the best day for the release. There is the weekend afterwards for you guys to play with new stuff (the trains :)). Yet there is not so much pressure as on the Friday when it is 6pm and people are asking where the release is. And on top of that we can go out for some beers on Friday and take a bit of rest:)

Too bad we will miss. But I think that there are better ways to spend the birthday than playing Factorio;) Anyone has birthday on the 2nd of May ?:)

I agree with you but ... what if saves are not compatible?

The earlier saves will be compatible. No worries ;) We have a system of internal migrations in place that makes sure that saves from long ago are compatible. We might be doing some internal pruning by saying for instance "from version x.y.z on we don't support saves earlier then version p.q.r". However we haven't started with that yet.

in regards to 4.0 coming out on the second, which timezone and around what time of day will it be released in?

just for reference, as i am a new Zealander and so i'm currently living on GMT +12, and kinda want to know if i have to wait until the third.....

apart from that i'm really looking forward to this update :D :D :D :D

I presume that our developer guys are mostly Czech, so the will release it according to CEST timezone.
But I dont remember whether they specified if they release it in exact hour or just during the day. Or at least till midnight, so I think it does not matter in what timezone you live. Just check the website during the european friday.

Yes, we are based in Prague. That means GMT + 1. The release will be as usual in the evening. I would say +- 22:00.

Is there any patchnote or something? Or are the new additions supposed to be a surprise?

Yup.. there are ~ 2 hours left till midnight in CZ. (10 minutes till 22:00)

About the changelog - you can observe the translation changes, it gives good hints about the new useful things.

What do you think about electrified railroads? Given that nuclear energy is planned, they would make sense.
The could be unfriendly to regular power wiring, though (in real - world they do not cross.. well at least not with the 230V lines, not sure about the superhigh voltage wiring)

PS: I like the train stop / backer names so far.
