My gueess:
Solar panels are inefficient, but you can build a "lightning catcher" to get electricity. It would be nice change when lightning catcher has large radius of catching. (like one chunk) Then it means your power source have to spread and interfere with standardized field of melting, or any large pre-made blueprint.

What about bitters, do they crawl under ground ?

Is this the planet with the green belts, or the belt stacking? I'm going to guess it can give you the belt stacking tech.
I love the background storytelling and the atmosphere. You could say, I'm lightning-awe-struck

That's the trick. They release some vague information, and have us speculate about the implications, and then they scoop up the good ideas and implement them.

So I guess the name is from Latin Fulgeo then? Fitting :D

Amazing visuals as always. Good Job! :D

I wonder if this Oil-Sand is basically you source of Hydrocarbons for fuel. Looking forward to what the other minable resources are.

It would be also pretty funny if you had to clean up this place, maybe to get some technologies from there to reduce the overall polution of the factory? Would be pretty interessting if this was actually necessary on the last Planet, because you cannot beat the Aliens there outright, so you need to stay low profile.

I had the amazing coincidence that I just was playing The Artilleryman and the Fighting Machine from War of the Worlds had playing.
It was the perfect backdrop music to reading and watching about this mysterious new planet. It almost seemed to be perfectly timed to the length of the videos and building mystery with each one.

It seems to me that factorio is a game for building factories and automation. Today's news has nothing to do with that.

I'm guessing we will harness the power of lighting to power our factory

It's funny if they really do add a Lightning Rod as a power source because a single Lightning Strike on Earth has only enough total power to run a Lightbulb for a Day and that is it. That is what high Volts and low Amps gets you, after all Humans have proven to be able to survive a Lightning Strike so it cannot be all that many Joules.

At the beginning I got a feeling of emptiness and cruel hostality of lifeless nature. Once the dead civilization got revealed, I got even slightly depressed. Very dark mood. I just hope that the ruins are planet-wise phenomenon and that they are not just at the spawn

Vulcanus is Venus, Fulgora is Mars. Any objections? :P

Interesting post, though I'm almost thinking it would have worked better as a single video with voiceover.

I wonder... what killed them all. Was it the weather? Was it themselves? Or something else... alive out there?
