Is there no other way for multiplayer than to get all non player actions determinsistic?

I really fear that such approach will never be really reliable. Could you name some games that work that way?

I know for sure of Starcraft and Age of empires, but I guess that it applies to RTS games generally.

My first thought of the Screenshot without reading the text was "Oh nice, they now have Mesa Biomes" ;)

Hmmm, maybe we could introduce couple of new terrains by simple transformations of the existing ones :D

While I'm interested in seeing how Factorio multiplayer turns out, I'll be honest - I'd be 100% happy even if MP wasn't in the game at all - I love the singleplayer sandbox and I don't *need* anything else. But I know there's a lot of gamers who might play the game because and only because it has multiplayer, so it's probably a good addition from business point of view. That said, I wish you all the best with all the work you do on the game, multiplayer work included :)

Factorio Colonizes mirror world.

MP is something I would probably love to try but my schedule means I rarely get any game time with friends so while I think its awesome that you guys are doing it I doubt I'll actually get to use it much.

Multiplayer would be awesome if the resources were found in larger chunks or veins but were further apart so that you could have one person maintaining the factory and others spreading out train lines to reach the distant ore.

At the moment the small, scattered minerals aren't really worth bothering with because of the time and effort to set up a train station and often the "large" deposits I do find don't last more than an hour or two before they're mined out (not much when the average map completion time is ~40-50 hours). Grouping ores/coal/stone more densely but with more space between will set up more of a situation where you have each player setting up their own mid/long-term factories and satellite stations that can potentially synergise with each other. I guess kind of like randomly placing 'starting' areas around the map, but only with one or two resource types at each.

Actually it'd be great to have that in single player too :D

Also I'm really digging that lava world, it actually looks really cool

This could be nice to play around with. It could add some differsity to the map. Not that it isn't already good looking. ;)

I hope that means a standalone windows server without the graphical bit, so I can push it up to my windows server :)
