Quality level names poll

I've gleaned a collection of names suggested in both the original Quality FFF thread and the previous Quality poll and sorted them roughly in order of increasing implied quality, along with the original fantasy/rarity style names. Choose one for each quality level (but you don't have to follow my suggested level numbers).

So after four days the leading contenders are:
  1. 'Normal' by a nose from 'Standard'
  2. 'Improved'
  3. Dead heat between 'Superior' and 'Excellent'
  4. 'Exceptional'
  5. 'Perfect', despite a late run from 'Flawless'

Grey, Green, Blue, Purple, Orange quality.

Or level 1-5 quality

I'm also fine with the RPG flavoured quality names, I've seen the uproar against them, but they're awfully universally understood. they might not be "immersive", but they have the advantage that most people will understand them.

And if the drama queens outraged by this #literallyunplayable nomenclature have the final word :

Normal (1)
Improved (2)
Superior (3)
Exceptional (4)
Flawless (5)

No-one else likes "Optimised"?

In Factorio?

For shame!

The problem is when you are speaking from optimized, higher tiers must be more optimized. Also optimized is like having a normal quality item and adding something to it, which is not the case.

I also like:
Normal (1)
Improved (2)
Superior (3)
Exceptional (4)

but in my opinoin there is no good (5) yet.

To be optimized does not mean it's as good as it can get. That's (arguably) optimal. Optimized just means it has had optimization applied to it, even if minor. And this does not require adding something to it. You can optimize something by tweaking some of the existing components or methods of construction.

I think you may have just come up with the best T5 name yet:

Optimal.

Great minds think alike.
I have suggested the same few days ago. Need to be added to the poll.

Don't forget to add "anything goes if it's clearly distinguishable" in next iteration.
I'm fine with literally any quality codes, from just colored dots, to industry standard Normal<->...<->Legendary, to differently striped pantsu icons.
If it allows knowing which item is better at first sight for a majority of playerbase, it's fine.
For everything (and everyone) else, a mod or custom localization can be assembled.
So in the end these discussions are not worth servers' processing powers.

This is a great thread and it's largely the point people are trying to make without making it too directly.

If you build this thing and it develops an audience which has a commonly understood perception of how things are constructed (not just your thing, but the domain your thing is built in), and start making changes which are confusing to that audience - you're making a mistake.

Factorio respected a genre which has an audience which understands that genre. Start disrespecting the genre or (?) randomly jumping into another genre is going to be confusing and counter productive.

In other words: don't use MMORPG terminology in a sci-fi factory building game.

I'm not really a fan of the original names, and I don't think it matters a lot. But the original names are at least not confused with the authors opinion of their blueprints. Sometimes I write that my blueprint is "perfect" or "optimal" (because I'm the best, and my blueprints are). If quality names are the same commonly used words then then it's not always obvious if we are talking about a perfectly optimized blueprint or if it's a shitty build with T5/legendary components. When actually reading threads it will be fairly obvious from context, but scrolling through forum titles, then the clues are easily lost.

But it's just a minor point, about a pointless topic :)

Can I vote for "chipped, flawed, regular, flawless, perfect"? ;)

Chipped Barrel of Chipped Lubricant.
This is ridiculous.
And I'm not even starting on Perfect...

P. S. Crude Crude Oil, anyone?

As-is or Q1-Q5. I'm sure there will be mods on day 1 that change this, hopefully that wouldn't disable achievements.

Really don't see how quality could be applied to liquids. Going to assume they're not.

Chipped Crude Oil should be a physical impossibility (how do you chip something that is amorphous?).

Perfect Sulfuric Acid, on the other hand, is just perfect! Just, don’t ask what its perfect *for*.

That aside, I too hope that the Quality levels do not apply to fluids. I really don’t see how to avoid mixing them, and if they somehow count as different items that would really, and I mean REALLY, booger up your Chipped Crude Oil refining operations.
