Greetings, fellow inserters !

Factorio now has an official IRC !
Two ways to join the chat :
  • If you have an IRC client, connect to irc.esper.net, and join ##Factorio. Yes, it's a double #
  • If you don't have one, don't know what an IRC client is, or if you want to keep things simple, click here
The operators on IRC are currently :
  • Nirahiel (That's me !)
  • kovarex
  • slpwnd
Hope to see you around !

Yeah, someone (can't remember who now) had created #factorio (for factorio, not some other random thing lol) but it wasn't really used, so Nirahiel created the new one so that the topic could be changed and stuff. At least if i recall correctly :)

An IRC channel? Why not host an IRC server? It's relatively simple and grants you much more control. Would you like that? If the server you guys have isn't a shared host, it could probably be set up silently over the existing setup.

Also, I recommend Miaou (Uses Node.js) over IRC.

I was/am that someone. There wasn't an IRC channel when I set it up after having discovered Factorio, I hadn't had a chance to hop on the forums and advertise it though. That and generally speaking I didn't feel as though it would have been right to advertise without permission.

Could easily do it. I've run IRC servers for 20 years on and off. I currently have a network running that I use mostly for my own testing and conferencing. Though really if all you need is a channel, you don't need an entire server. Much less a network. Esper works fine for that as of now.

I think a channel for now is enough. The question is whether we should stay at ##factorio or "move" to #factorio in case that is something that is accessible.

If you guys wish to use #factorio that is fine by me, I set it up for that purpose in the first place. I'm happy to give the appropriate people access as well. Nirahiel, I get that you set it up as you thought #Factorio was being squatted on, but it wasn't. And I'm not sure what I was doing at the time you came in to discuss it but I run a bouncer that is connected 24/7 regardless of whether or not I am in fact connected to it. I don't recall seeing any messages left for me at any rate. Adding an additional # is strange for pretty much any network other than Freenode. Freenode adopts that system as a method of showing 'official' channels vs unofficial channels. Esper uses no such system.

Either way if you guys decide to use ##Factorio or #Factorio it can be changed relatively simply without ever needing to alter anything anywhere. A channel forward can be setup so that anyone trying to go to ##Factorio is automatically joined to #Factorio likewise anyone trying to join #Factorio can be moved automatically to ##Factorio. (Though for that I would need op to setup the forward, or Nirahiel would need to set it up as I gave him access to #Factorio. Only channel ops of both channels can forward.)

Hehe.

This is a very old thread. So I marked it now as deprecated and closed it to avoid any further misinterpretation.

Go to
https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... f=5&t=3456

In other words: remove the second # from the URL and it works.

I now close this current one. :)
