This map is a good island star, has 3 points off the island, two in the west and one in the east.

Everything is Normal/medium/regular, except water (very big) and Iron Ore (Normal, Medium, Very Good)
The Map seed is 2302737255
Who would like to race?

The map strings I saved and loaded on my own computer work, so they have to work at least partially... I would guess it's a cross-platform issue. Unfortunately, that's also likely to mean that sending a save file with the map would be useless as well...

Sending a save file should work, since that part of the map is already generated, and saved to file. Anything generated outside of that area though, might not match up from one computer to the next.

Not sure, but the seed must be in the save, and so the map generator should work equally. There might be small differences, depending on platform.

That's a problem, though. Even the tiniest difference in map generation can result in a completely different map, the errors simply add up.

Yes, nothing generated outside of the generated idea would match up. Which means you need to explore a massive area in all directions to accomodate the needs of all people, which would result in a massive save. Not nearly the ideal option.

That's a completely different issue.

It doesn't seem to be an issue with the map generation itself.
Starting with the same save, generating new chunks on Windows and Linux yields the same results.

Wait: did FishSandwich copy the entire string? Only a part of it is visible when viewing the post on smaller screens, I had to hit the quote button to see the entire mapgen string. Here it is in the code format so it can be seen in its entirety:

Code: Select all

AAAKAAIAAwADBQYAAAAEAAAAY29hbAMDAgoAAABjb3BwZXItb3JlAwMCCQAAAGNydWRlLW9pbAMDAgoAAABlbmVteS1iYXNlAwMCCAAAAGlyb24tb3JlAwMEBQAAAHN0b25lAwMCZ/tAiXNTAADGuwAAAAAAAAAAAAADAAzNEnL=

That's the string I used. Also, repeatedly generating a map using the same string each time gives a different map every time without fail.

It just seems like map string is broken right now..

Can confirm now, map strings don't do anything anymore. I used them in 10.1 (or was it 10.0?), so it must be a new bug... well, off to the bug report forum!

The Map shows the pollution from my factory, I didn't toggle it off before taking off the picture. The dots of red are enemy bases and units.
