Offline. Permanently.

Back then the Idea was to provide a server to be able to test your connectivity and try out some Factorio multiplayer but with the 0.13 release multiplayer has been made easily available for everyone which makes this server obsolete.

Yeah, it seems that when someone (like me) who always glitches when they try to host (like me) is the only one in the server, and someone else tries to connect, it makes the server and the player trying to connect seem to drop, but I think really the server re-hosts and and drops the glitchy player. An option to stop yourself from hosting so only the headless server does would be helpful.

By the way, the way it glitches is that when I host the uploading bar goes alright for a short while, but it starts jumping around more and more as the upload speed increases until the player cannot be reached (or whatever the wording is, I forgot). Anyone else had this?

edit: Peers are not responding is the error

For those interested, the server seems to be hosted in France.

It seems that SamSam is right. When I connect right now, I get the following error:
Image

The IP listed is not the IP of the server, so it seems that the peer who hosts the game is switching from the dedicated server to another player that can't be reached on port 34197.
Usually, when Factorio is started as dedicated server, only the server should be allowed to host the game.

I will restart the server now and see if that helps.
The server has generated a factorio-current.log (~700kb), if needed I could upload it somewhere.

I've just fixed your stone problem :D
And it crashed by the looks of it or something.

So sad.

I managed to get on the server by connecting directly after the server started.
However, every other minute the game would stop, show the message Following peers are not responding: unknown username and then continue after a few seconds.

Then I disconnected and wanted to reconnect 5 minutes later, now I can't get in because I receive the same error as stated in the picture above.

I will leave the server running for now, maybe it will resolve itself somehow, but currently I'd say it's not playable.

Can't have two player connected at the same time.

Same here:
Player 1 Connects.
Player 2 tries to connect. Server freezes for a brief moment.
Then unknown user is disconnected and it continues.

Verified:
Player 2 connects
Player 1 tries to connect. Server freezes for a brief moment.
Then unknown user is disconnected and it continues.

Firewalls on the server had been turned off for test purpose.
Machine is a dedicated ubuntu 14.04

Client Log
I understand that until now Factorio was complete P2P-designed, but running it as a dedicated headless server should mean that the only connection my PC (the client) makes is the connection to the server. According to this log the client tries to get heartbeats from all the other peers on the server and fails doing that, because the other clients ports are not open (and they shouldn't need to be in a server-client architecture). This is the reason it quits the multiplayer connection.

I had left my Factorio port opened when I joined, maybe that's why I could play (along with a few others... I have no idea :?: )

I've finally managed to connect to my own server ;)
You need to have port 34197 (or whatever port you're using) open for UDP traffic, otherwise you won't be able to connect.
You'll get the error message Following peers are not responding: unknown username, ...
I've explained it in this bug report thread: https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... =10#p92324

To the people that played on the server: I'm really impressed with the base you've been building. I've not expected to see such a big base just after 1,5 days on an actual public server that anyone can join.

Thank you for making this experiment - sure was a fun time and a real blast playing.
r.i.p this awesome experience once we hit steam and you get all assorted random peeps joining public server - we better enjoy it while the community is small and friendly ;)

I'm stuck in a desync-loop, a little while ago I started desyncing, and I've not been able to join since (after the desync-reconnect completes I'm thrown back into desync)

I'll pm Twinsen and ask where to upload the reports seeing he alreay got a few from last night.
