Mega City - gameplay after Rocket Defense

I played Factorio so many times that I started to feel that build Rocket Defense is not satisfy. Factorio plot is about colonization but there is no colonization mechanics at all.
Yesterday I watched (again) new Dredd movie and when I saw Mega City One I get an idea. Lets build our own Mega City in Factorio.
How it would work?
After build Rocket Defense our ships arrive in orbit and they randomly send drop pods on surface. We have to reach them and rescue colonists before aliens destroy the pods or they die (pods constantly lose health).
We also have to build super expensive MegaTowers ( https://storiesbywilliams.files.wordpre ... htrees.jpg https://ericchamberlainifdm.files.wordp ... ty_4cc.jpg ) and put rescued colonist inside (pods lose health also inside inventory or chests so we have to hurry). Each tower consume water, power and goods. Each colonist inside tower increase that needs.
If we don't satisfy their needs, colonists in the MegaTowers will start to die until they reach a level corresponding to the supply quantity.
The point is to rescue all colonists.

Did you read the FFFs? (so from http://www.factorio.com/blog/post/fff-78 to http://www.factorio.com/blog/post/fff-91)

The rocket defence is only a placeholder. And in the upcoming 0.12 version there is the first things for the new endgame implemented (buliding a spaceship/platform).

I doubt that the general endgame will not be changend totally at this stage :)

I read all FFFs and my idea refers to the dev's idea.

"The direction we like the most is, that the player builds his rescue ship on the orbit in similar fashion as in the space run, so it can fly to some rendezvous location where the colonisation ship is waiting in some kind of hibernated state. Once the rescue ship reaches the colonist ship, the colonist will move to the rescue ship. The rescue ship will contain designed colonist modules, so the amount of colonists the player can rescue is dependent on the count of these modules. Then the ship has to travel back. It can encounter different kind of threats on the way there and back, and it needs to be self sustainable. It needs to gather materials needed for the engines and repairs.The gathering will be done by some special "catching devices". We also like, that keeping the colonists alive on the way back gives us freedom in the complexity of the mission. Whenever we feel it is not complex enough, we can add different kind of things the rescue ship needs to process to keep the colonist alive."

So my idea is to bring gameplay between send ship/ships and colonists arrive, and after they arrive.
