Moving single items from stack

Factorio does have a good bunch of hotkeys and modifiers for manipulating stacks but I feel one specific function is missing:

In Minecraft, if you hover over a stack and scroll the mousewheel, for each "scroll" one unit of the item is moved to the other inventory.I did not find such a function in the game (if there is, I apologize) but feel Factorio would really benefit from that. Often you want to split for example a stack of coal between 5 furnaces and splitting it manually (and evenly) is a little to tedious I find.

If you carry the stack with your cursor and right click, it will place 1 item in the inventory spot you're hovering over. This is a way to transfer single items.

It's not ideal though. It's still tedious if you want more than just a few, so some extra control over the amount you want to transfer is welcome.

Hm. I think I would use it, if it works with the middle mouse, but add that the transfer rates should rise. For example like so:

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 100, 200, 300, 500, 1000 ...

Perhaps some better algorithms (repeating clicks, means different...) So, with some clicks and roll, reverse roll etc. you can get any number.

I agree.

I like that as well.
Well to combine our two ideas, lets say we use the scroll wheel for 1 item per scroll "tick" but add modifiers to increase the amount.
I guess SHIFT for 10 and CTRL for 100 per tick should be ok? Maybe even SHIFT + CTRL for 1000 per, I don't know. :D

Interesting.

Another option here would be to drag the mouse while holding the mouse button.

So you open your inventory, click and hold on the item, then drag up to increase quantity, down to decrease.

This would work because you can't drag & drop items at the moment.

I wanted to make basicly the same suggestion. :)

It's somewhat annoying if you want to put like 15 ammo in 20 seperat Turrets in the beginning were you don't have a belt and inserters to restock them.

What about a simple scroll wheel modifier to an item held in-hand? Pick up a stack, hold shift, scroll, and it picks up or puts back items from where they were taken.

The "half of this, place in this slot, pick up half of that, right click twice" and then repeating gets tedious...especially when the chest is being emptied/filled and your half is no longer half. I wish kovarex's son played and asked why it wasn't easier.

The game already has a key for dropping one item, "Z". Maybe it could work in inventories to transfer one item if you have nothing in your hand.

That said, currently if you hold a stack and press Z over a UI element, it drops the item on the ground behind that UI element.
