The way I solar

Post by six_sigma »

Hey guys, finally got around to posting to how I do my solar, because well... I think its a nice clean way. I see so many people with a few panels surrounding a medium pole and it just seems off to me... so I wanted a nice way to make my big array

I like the idea of keeping the "square" look so I went with the best way to pack stuff into a 3x3 square of substations... accumulators fit very nicely into that because they are 2x2, but solars just need a small tweak.

As you can see, the solar panels don't fit cleanly, adjust by dropping the substations down.

there is a gap between the substation and the solar panel directly above it, but as you can see its well hidden. You can even add lights in there to brighten it up if you want.

Also fits well into a roboport construction area for fast assembly

Nice way to cut unused space around the substations by over half. Though after moving onto pure solar power, stamping down the usual solar/accumulator mixed setup reduces mental work on calculating how many accumulator stamps you need afterwards, so I prefer that instead for future-proofing.

Wow this is pretty nice for just being solar panels without the accumulators. :D Really like the fact you managed to mostly close the space between the substations and panels, and that it's symmetrical. Haha

If you're interested in big solar blueprints with roboports, you might wanna check out this: https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... 198#p43198
The author did a pretty good job imo.

I use that design initially but it's more like on end game, in early and mid it's way too expensive for my factory.
