Wouldn't it be great if the rain actually did something, rather than just looked nice. Like filling up lakes so you have to contend with flooding (unless you pump it out), or water collectors which only fill when it's raining. Or even hazards like acid rain which damage things if you don't protect ...

This issue is still present in the latest version of Factorio. I can't use programs like OnTopReplica while playing Factorio in full screen.

because the sprites are rendered as simple image file formats.[/color] What I meant by asking for HDR is not a simple toggle in the game, but a re-rendering of all the assets. If all the assets were re-rendered in HDR, and there was an option to enable them in game, would it make a visual difference?

TL;DR When an underground pipe or belt is in your hand, display the maximum distance it can reach. What ? Seeing the colors become much more subdued from the lower alpha levels reminds me of Dunkey's Bad Graphics video. I hope you get the higher alpha colors working, makes the game more visually pleasing to have things colorfully stand out.
