Re: outserter priority
With regard to OP's solution, what that does is replace one set of behaviour with another which is different but not necessarily better. I'm with ssilk on this one - the current behaviour is useful and I use it in varying ways. If I have a problem where I want to evenly split the output of one facto...

Better to let this thread fizzle out by not adding fuel to the fire. In other words, please don't feed the troll.

Re: Trains do not seek alternate route?
Thanks Starxplor, you're right. I don't have the original set up that made me come to that conclusion but after reading your post I set up an isolated test and was able to get the train to seek the alternate root. Woo! As a side note, I think I found a bug in the signal placement when setting up the...

Trains do not seek alternate route?
I've played around with trains a fair bit now and I just want to confirm one last thing with rail signals. If there are two possible paths for a train to take to get to a particular stop, the train seems to bias one or the other. If the path it always selects has a red light block, the train will no...

It's hard to imagine a viable role for nuclear energy while solar panels and accumulators work as they do.

Re: Better/more efficient power production?
Adding complexity for complexity's sake should be avoided. I agree there. I've watched a lot of LPs and most people don't read the kW ratings of boilers and steam engines the first time they play. They just "put more" until they have enough power. That's normal behavior in other games too....

Re: Strategic decisions - Power supply
I remember being a bit surprised when I realised steam engines produced exactly as much power as you need, instantly responding to demand changes. I guess the devs made a design choice on that some time ago, so maybe they don't want to revisit this? Later, I was a bit disappointed when I found out h...

It's really stupid that this bothers me the most: Mail still uses the age old protocol we use since back in 1982(SMTP). Possibility for encryption has been added in, as have some protocols for actually getting the mail off your server(POP3 vs IMAP etc.), but the protocol to send and receive mail HA...

Re: Peace with Aliens
There are three main resources sinks in the game: 1. Research packs 2. Factory expansion (belts, machines etc.) 3. Combat equipment for the player. I would prefer more ways to spend resources than less. I also think breaking up player tasks between factory expansion, exploring (which is already nerf...

Re: Better/more efficient power production?
Putting in new structures like Steam engine Mk2 doesn't really add much to the game IMHO. It's ok to do a bit of this in the game, like Assembler I, II III. But it can become tedious if too many buildings are like this. The introduction of nuclear power is an obvious answer to OPs question and it wo...

Re: Pirating as a 'demo'. Your opinions?
This is what factorio currently has, DRM that has not worked Two more points. You are still pushing the idea that the only reason for the username/password is to prevent piracy. Yet you still have no actual way of knowing this. It's just speculation. You've declared that it has not worked by defini...

Re: Pirating as a 'demo'. Your opinions?
...likely the first step to DRM in multiplayer a) I would call that pretty wild speculation. b) So what if it is? This kind of authentication for updates is very common in games, as you point out. There is very low inconvenience to the user and very low security risk if you apply common sense passw...

This has already been suggested and the developer has said he wants to make some kind of stone floor.

Re: Pirating as a 'demo'. Your opinions?
Which of the reasons on that list do you think applies to factorio's requirement for a login to get updates? The only one that I think makes sense is the DRM. Quite possibly. But there are a multitude of other reasons why they might have done it. It could be that all the people who pirated factorio...

Re: Pirating as a 'demo'. Your opinions?
I've answered your question so please, answer mine, is logging in just to play multiplayer DRM? Is forcing players to login to authentification servers just to play single player considered DRM to you? Honestly, I wouldn't care to guess as to the architectural reasons why a hypothetical game might ...

Re: Pirating as a 'demo'. Your opinions?
Besides, logging in is just a process to establish your identity. Without a recognised identity you are indistinguishable from a person who has not bought the game. That is the very definition of DRM So just to get this straight, my email account which requires me to log in is DRM enabled, but a re...

Re: Pirating as a 'demo'. Your opinions?
I consider it DRM because they are "managing" your "rights" to update your "digital" product. Nonsense. Factorio's updater system is opt-in. DRM means you don't get a choice. Besides, logging in is just a process to establish your identity. Without a recognised identit...

Re: Pirating as a 'demo'. Your opinions?
Care to say what game and what dev it was? The word must spread. We must stay informed! I don't really feel like bringing that game up here, nor using Factorio's forum to name and shame that developer. It's not hard to figure out if you want to know though. I use the same username and avatar on eve...
