I think this technique is spoiled in the (new hope) campaign by looking at the partially destroyed train station, that's where I found out.

4. Accumulators.0-50%

But this would only make sense if there are any Solar panels. connected to the system

Sounds like needless complexity. If all buildings were to require foundations, why not include their cost in the building cost? If costs are included, why not make placing and removing foundations a part of placing/removing the building? If foundations are placed/removed with the building, why are ...

The original idea of foundation would not fit into Factorio quite well. Imagine you have to place hundreds of foundation tiles just to be able to place long belt to bring your resources to your furnaces. This would become realy tedios. The campaign should never be dumbed down when it is beatable ( at least it was for me even though it did indeed cost a lot of retrying).
It would be much better if the campaign teaches the player how to use the tools at hand instead of randomly throwing some at them without explanation.

Why would we need to harvest wood faster when it is completely useless as soon as the player can produce steel,
I can only see this being any useful for removing trees which are blocking expansions.
